Review for the ALEKS PPL Math Placement Assessment
Click below for a list of possible topics that may be covered in the Math Placement test. Note that not all students will see all topics. ALEKS is an adaptive program that will present a variety of questions to narrow down the topics you have mastered. ALEKS PPL Test Topics
General Review for the PPL:
- College and Intermediate Algebra, Solutions
- College Algebra and some trig, Solutions
- General review for most topics up through calculus and statistics are available through the Khan Academy.
- ALEKS Prep and Learning Mode — Once
you have completed the ALEKS PPL test, you have immediate access to a
Prep and Learning module. Access this through your Next Steps Center or
by contacting the Math Placement Office. You have limited access to
the review module. It must be accessed within 12 months of completing
your first test.
Tips For Success for UA MATH Courses
- Start preparing before classes begin. Go to the course website,
look at the course syllabus, and get started on the first few weeks of
assignments, with the goal that the first few weeks of lecture will be
review. This is a formula for success. Do not walk into your first UA
math course without review.
- Students who place into a course with the minimum requirements should consider taking the prerequisite.
- Review and be prepared.
Review Prerequisite Material
Once
you have satisfied the eligibility requirements for a particular UA
MATH course, it is important to know the prerequisite material for that particular course. Below is a list of UA
MATH courses with links to material that students need to know prior to taking that particular course. In general, this is material that is not reviewed during the course.
- Prepare for College Algebra and lower level Math courses: MATH 106, 107, 108, 112
- Prepare for Preparation for Calculus: MATH 120R
- Prepare for Elements of Calculus: MATH 113, Calculus Concepts for Business: Math 116
- Prepare for Calculus I: MATH 122A/B, 125
